In a picture-perfect seaside town, an insurance salesman begins to realize that his entire existence may be staged and observed by a vast unseen audience as part of a long-running real-time reality TV show.

A father drowning before a child's eyesTruman relives in flashback his father swept away by a storm at sea when he was small; at the end, the show's master unleashes a real storm to stop him leaving, and for a moment we believe he will drown him.
A whole life built on a lieHis wife, his best friend, his mother play a part and lie to him with a smile; when he starts to understand, he shouts and threatens his wife with a kitchen knife. A feeling of confinement that grows throughout the film.
