Princess Leia is captured and held hostage by the evil Imperial forces in their effort to take over the galactic Empire. Venturesome Luke Skywalker and dashing captain Han Solo team together with the loveable robot duo R2-D2 and C-3PO to rescue the beautiful princess and restore peace and justice in the Empire.

- Losses that matterLuke loses his family early in the adventure: all we see is the smoking farm and, from a distance, what is left. Later, another person close to him vanishes before his eyes. The movie leaves little room for grief, but these deaths drive the story.
- A villain who scaresDarth Vader, masked and breathing heavily, chokes people from a distance when they cross him. Desert raiders leap out screaming, and a creature hidden in the water of a trash compactor drags Luke under.
- A single image of bloodIn a bar, an arm cut off with a lightsaber falls to the floor in a little blood, for about a second. Elsewhere, a captive princess sees a machine with a needle coming toward her, but the door closes before anything is shown.
