What age is The Mandalorian and Grogu appropriate for?

Rated PG-13 in the US. 13, alone or with a parent; 10 in France. The whole movie, watched in full: what's in it, and how to talk about it with your child.

Why is The Mandalorian and Grogu not recommended under 13?

What's in it: the official rating, first; an arena where people really die; a minute and a half of gunfire, explosions everywhere; growling creatures, and Grogu in danger; a helmet they want to take, a shame they want to inflict; three losses spoken, at the end. The detail, fact by fact, is in the zinema guide, which reads the work itself (images, sound, dialogue).

What it's about

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.

Why 13

The official rating, firstRated PG-13 in the US (parents strongly cautioned, some material may be inappropriate for children under 13). zinema never goes below the country's rating: it explains it.
rule
An arena where people really dieAn enslaved fighter, a crowd chanting 'kill, kill, kill', a master who sends opponents at him until he dies: the hardest sequence, and death is named thirty-nine times in the film, almost always 'kill'. Nothing bloody on screen.
shown
A minute and a half of gunfire, explosions everywhereBlasters, ships, battles: 92 seconds of shots, some fifty images of explosions, a hundred and forty images of fighting. It is Star Wars, the violence is constant and clean.
shown
Growling creatures, and Grogu in dangerArena and swamp monsters, roars in eight scenes, and little Grogu regularly separated from his protector, in dark corridors: two thirds of the film is at night.
shown
A helmet they want to take, a shame they want to inflictThe Hutts and the Imperial warlords humiliate as much as they kill: 'we will have shamed you forever'. Threats, blackmail, and a child bargained for 'a cage'.

Three losses spoken, at the endCompanions fall in battle and are mourned in a few words in the last quarter hour; seven seconds of crying in all.

What the movie brings

A father and a child: the Mandalorian teaches Grogu, and Grogu teaches him, the only love story in Star Wars that never says the word.
The bounty hunters' Star Wars: Hutts, arenas, black markets, the galaxy seen from below, without Jedi or princesses.
Cinema at helmet height: readable fights, ships, a pace that lets you breathe (a cut every four seconds).

Watching it together

Before

The arena scene and the creatures in the dark are the two things to expect. A nine-year-old who knows the series will follow; sitting next to them, give a warning before the arena.

After

at 13 and up

Why does the Mandalorian never take off his helmet, and what does it change for Grogu?
