What it's about

Teenager Riley's mind headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

Why 6

A panic attack, from the insideA new emotion, Anxiety, takes the controls to protect Riley, and the pressure builds up to a panic attack on the ice, filmed from within, breath cut short. The film handles it with great accuracy, but it is a strong moment for a child.

Believing you are not good enough"I'm not good enough" grows into a belief. To please the older girls, Riley drops her friends, lies, and sneaks into the coach's office.

Growing up, and everything changesPuberty arrives like an alarm, headquarters gets demolished, the parents take outbursts in the face, and the two best friends move to another school.
shown
Cartoon words"Kill me", "they're dead to us", "over my dead body": figures of speech. Nobody dies, nobody gets hurt, and the fights are hockey games.

What the movie brings

Every emotion has its place, even anxiety, as long as none of them rules alone.
You are not one idea of yourself: you are all of it at once.

Watching it together

Before

Stay for the crisis on the ice, near the end: say that it happens, that it passes, and that breathing helps.

After

at 6 and up

Anxiety wanted to protect Riley and made her suffer. Do you ever worry too much about something?
