Alone, or with you
The official US rating is PG; we never go below it, and here we go above: 10. Alone from 10; from 9, with an adult or by talking about it afterwards.
The sweet spot: around 10-12, when you can follow a time paradox and laugh at your parents at seventeen, without being embarrassed by a mother flirting with her son. Why a sweet spot?
Eighties teenager Marty McFly is accidentally sent back in time to 1955, inadvertently disrupting his parents' first meeting and attracting his mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by rekindling his parents' romance and - with the help of his eccentric inventor friend Doc Brown - return to 1985.
A teenager from 1985 is thrown thirty years into the past by a scientist's car, runs into his parents at his own age, and must make them meet before he fades away.
Say beforehand that Doc makes it; the car scene at the dance deserves a sentence afterwards, about a no that is not up for discussion.
at 10 and up
Marty changes one thing in 1955 and his whole family is different in 1985: what, in your parents' lives, decided everything?
