What it's about

Young lion prince Simba, eager to one day become king of the Pride Lands, grows up under the watchful eye of his father Mufasa; all the while his villainous uncle Scar conspires to take the throne for himself. Amid betrayal and tragedy, Simba must confront his past and find his rightful place in the Circle of Life.

A parent's death, at the centerDeath is not decoration here, it is the engine of the story. A killing is spoken of again and again, in words a child understands: dead, killed, murderer. The worst is not shown directly, but the loss lands hard, and a young cub is made to believe it was his fault. That guilt is what stays with children afterward, more than any image.

Threats and a cruel uncleThe villain is openly menacing, with growls, sneers and lines like "you're dead" thrown at a child. Hyenas circle in the dark with glowing eyes and closing jaws. Several stretches are shot in near darkness, and screaming faces come up often enough that a sensitive 6 or 7 year old will grip your arm.

Fights, fire and a lost childThere are real brawls between animals, a stampede, and a burning kingdom near the end, with flames and smoke. Between those peaks, the film lingers on a small figure alone in the dark, walking away from everyone he knows. The separation is as heavy as the action.

Sharp words, and warmth tooCharacters call each other stupid, idiots, creepy, and the young cub is mocked more than once. It is mild by most standards, and the two comic sidekicks bring genuine relief and belly laughs that reset the tension.
