What it's about
Back-to-school! For troublemaker Toto, it’s the best playground for fooling around. When a sculpture collapses during the opening of a museum, Toto is immediately blamed. To prove his innocence, Toto has no other option but making a pact with Igor, the school nerd. In exchange for his help, Toto will help Igor being cool. The unlikely duo turns into little detectives. A fun and exciting adventure begins…

- Our readingEverything here is a gag, including the blood, which the film takes care to tell us is beet juice. What stays real is elsewhere: an adult smokes in twenty five shots, Toto talks back to grown ups in a way a younger child will copy without the irony, and there is a moment when he is wrongly accused and cries alone.reading
- Pranks that look scaryThe film plays at being a thriller: guns pointed, a knife brandished, scuffles, faces screaming in terror, even smears of blood on a wall. It is all staged as a joke, and the story itself explains the red stuff away, but a young viewer takes the image before the punchline.
- A grown-up smoking, oftenOne adult character smokes through much of the film, in shot after shot, and beer and drinks show up at the party scenes. Nothing is condemned, nothing is praised, it is simply there, which is exactly what makes it worth a word from you.
- Accused of something he didn't doThe heart of the film is a boy blamed for a mess that isn't his, and there is a stretch where he is alone, in the dark, crying. It is brief and it resolves happily, but for a six year old it lands hard.
- Cheeky mouth, easy to copyToto answers back to teachers and parents, and the script sprinkles a few coarse words and name calling, including one real insult. Older kids hear the wink; younger ones just hear a script for Monday morning.
- Loud, fast, nonstopThe editing barely lets a shot breathe and the talk comes fast, with shouting, crashes and a few tense music cues. It is energetic fun rather than frightening, but it does not give a small child much quiet.
What the movie brings
- It makes a case for owning up to what you did, and refusing blame for what you didn't.
- Friendship here means sticking around when an adult has decided you're guilty.
- A gentle nudge that the funniest kid in class is also allowed to be hurt.
Watching it together
Before it starts, you might say that the blood in this one is a joke prop, and afterward that Toto's backtalk works in a movie but not at the dinner table.
