Official US rating: PG-13. In France, zinema would say 12.
In a dystopian society where the Capitol forces each district to send two young tributes to fight to the death in a televised spectacle, a girl volunteers to take her sister’s place, setting the stage for a struggle of survival and defiance.
In a country split into twelve poor districts and one lavish capital, two teenagers per district are drawn by lot each year to kill one another on camera, and a young woman volunteers in her little sister's place.
The violence is children killing children. It is filmed nervously, often off screen or in very short shots, but the premise is there from beginning to end. The real subject is not combat but reality television: being liked by the audience is a survival question, and the characters play a part to stay alive. The first film almost stands alone, but the story is a trilogy across four films, and the tone becomes markedly more political and harder afterwards.
Say beforehand that teenagers die, including a child, and talk afterwards about what Katniss refuses to do.

Why do the people of the Capitol watch the Games? And why do we watch this film?
