What it's about

Mufasa, a cub lost and alone, meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of a group of misfits searching for their destiny.

Why 7

Our readingMufasa's youth, a flood that sweeps him away, hunting white lions and a brother's betrayal: seven alone, six with an adult.
reading
Deaths told, never shownA flood sweeps Mufasa's parents away, and we understand they will not come back. Later, Kiros's white lions talk of killing, and we hear they will start with the youngest. None of it is shown: it all comes through words, and a 7-year-old can hear them with you beside them.
shown
Danger that keeps coming backThe crocodile lunging, the pride hunting, the escape down the river, the elephant stampede, the final rockfall: chases follow one another and the score tightens them. They are cartoon action scenes, with no visible injury, but they come often.
shown
A brother's betrayalTaka, jealous, gives Kiros the trail to his own family. Jealousy, shame and forgiveness are said in simple words; it is the real subject of the film, and the best one to talk about.

What the movie brings

A chosen family: the stray cub becomes a brother, then a king, without a bloodline
Songs that carry the action, with Timon and Pumbaa for comic relief
African landscapes and animals, rendered with striking realism
