The official US rating is PG-13, and we never go below it. Alone from 13, and not before, even with an adult.

The sweet spot: around 13, when you have seen the first two and can hear a hero say he has panic attacks. Why a sweet spot?

Official US rating: PG-13. In France, zinema would say 11.

What it's about

When Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.

Why 13

The official rating, firstRated PG-13 in the US (parents strongly cautioned, some material may be inappropriate for children under 13). zinema never goes below the country's rating: it explains it.
rule
Bombings and men who burnBombs in public places, a man exploding in a crowd, Extremis soldiers whose skin glows and who burn from within; Killian burned alive at the end. A house destroyed by helicopters. Little blood.
A hero who no longer sleepsTony has panic attacks in front of a child, collapses in a restaurant, does not sleep: post-traumatic stress shown simply, and the reason for the film.
Twenty-five swear wordsSwearing, a failed night with Pepper because of a suit; nothing shown.

What the movie brings

A superhero who is afraid: Tony's panic attacks, explained to a child by a child.
The Mandarin who is only an actor: the best twist in the series.
A hero without armour for half the film: Tony is worth his head, not his suit.

Watching it together

Before

Tony's panic attacks deserve a word; the bombings are brief; a ten-year-old will follow the rest with you.

After

at 13 and up

Tony blows up all his suits at the end: what can you do without once you have repaired what frightened you?
