The official US rating is PG-13, and we never go below it. Alone from 13, and not before, even with an adult.

The sweet spot: around 13, when you like robots and inventors, and can watch a man operated on awake in a cave without looking away. Why a sweet spot?

Official US rating: PG-13. In France, zinema would say 11.

What it's about

After being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.

Why 13

The official rating, firstRated PG-13 in the US (parents strongly cautioned, some material may be inappropriate for children under 13). zinema never goes below the country's rating: it explains it.

A cave, surgery without anaesthetic, a head under waterTony operated on awake, chest open, then his head forced into a tub of water; his cellmate dies freeing him. Later Pepper puts her hand into his chest to change the reactor. These are the hard scenes, in a film that jokes the rest of the time.
Terrorists, villagers, missilesA village where families are separated and a man is about to be executed, terrorists shot by the dozen, a suit that burns stockpiles of weapons; at the end, two suits fighting on a motorway. Without blood.
Whisky, girls and braggingTony drinks, gambles, brings home a journalist he leaves in the morning; innuendo, ten swear words, a glass of champagne inside a suit of armour.

What the movie brings

A hero with no powers, only tools and persistence.
An arms dealer who sees what his weapons do and stops: a conversion worth discussing.
The start of the whole Marvel universe, still light and funny.
