not yetwith an adult, or to talk about afteralonethe sweet spot
The official US rating is NR; we never go below it, and here we go above: 7. Alone from 7; from 6, with an adult or by talking about it afterwards.
The sweet spot: around 7-10, the age at which you wonder where a cold comes from and the explanations stick; at ten, you remember the words and use them at school. Why a sweet spot?
Official US rating: NR; zinema says 7. In France, zinema would say 7.
Attention please! Are you ready for an adventurous tour through the human body? With a lot of humour, our physical appearance is being introduced from head to toe along cells and organs in an educational way. The heart, blood, nerves and kidneys, each single one is a miracle which renders life possible.
Why 7
Above the official rating, and whyRated NR in the US (). We say 7: A teaching cartoon whose only violence is white blood cells chasing microbes with truncheons, in a body drawn pink and red throughout; nobody bleeds and no person dies. Seven years old, six with a parent for the noisiest episodes.
reading
A permanent war between white cells and microbesEvery infection episode turns into a battle: white blood cells, helmeted and star-badged, chase grimacing blue microbes with truncheons, "death to the invaders, anything goes". The microbes are drawn as cartoon villains, green and toothy. Nobody bleeds, nobody hurts, and they are cells, not people.
The body close up, red everywhereThe inside of the body is pink and red from start to finish, arteries, walls, clots forming; some passages show a wound from the inside or a kidney filtering. It is teaching illustration, never an injury on a person.
Illness, tobacco, old ageThe series does not hide what damages: lungs blackened by cigarettes, overeating, and a final episode on the body growing old. The tone stays that of a kindly teacher, with a gag in every scene.
What the series brings
The biology lesson nobody forgets: thirty years on, people still remember the red blood cells in their caps.
Your own body becomes a place you visit, with rules and inhabitants, instead of a mystery.
Real knowledge, checked by doctors at the time, passed on without ever lecturing.
Watching it together
Before
At six, stay for the battles against the microbes; they are loud and fast.
After
at 7 and up
If your white blood cells could talk, what would they tell you about your days?
