What it's about

As Hiccup fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless’ discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup’s reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind.

Why 7

• Our readingA dragon hunter and a farewell between a boy and his dragon: seven alone, six with an adult.
  reading
• A hunter out to kill the dragonThe villain is a dragon killer, cold and patient. He drugs his own beasts into obedience, walks into the hero's home to threaten him, promises to destroy everything he loves and burns his house down. Nothing is shown up close, but everything is said, and the threat hangs over the whole film.
  shown
• Fights and falls in the darkRaids on ships, war dragons with poisoned stingers, a battle over the sea where the hero lets go and falls. Many dark scenes, screams, a very fast pace. No blood.
  shown
• A friendship coming apartThe dragon meets a female and drifts away; the hero feels worthless without him and says so. The film is about letting go of what you love, and its ending tugs hard at the youngest.
  shown
• Jabs between friendsThe Vikings mock one another, sometimes harshly: a friend calls the hero a malnourished runt with bad hair and a twig for a neck, and the French dub piles on the insults. Two or three grown-up jokes sail over children's heads.
