7 alone, 6 with a parent.
Alone, or with you
The official US rating is PG; we never go below it, and here we go above: 7. Alone from 7; from 6, with an adult or by talking about it afterwards.
The sweet spot: around 8-10, when you want to prove you are not what the village thinks you are. Why a sweet spot?
Official US rating: PG; zinema says 7. In France, zinema would say 7.
As the son of a Viking leader on the cusp of manhood, shy Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III faces a rite of passage: he must kill a dragon to prove his warrior mettle. But after downing a feared dragon, he realizes that he no longer wants to destroy it, and instead befriends the beast, which he names Toothless, much to the chagrin of his warrior father.
Before you start, you could say: the grown ups in this village are sure dragons are monsters, so watch how one boy figures out they are wrong.
at 7 and up
Hiccup had a chance to hurt the dragon and chose not to. What made him stop, do you think?
