After a family scandal, teen rower Teagan Tao moves to a small town and joins an elite prep school's all-boys crew, sparking rivalry and attraction.

High school parties, with alcoholTeam parties set the rhythm of the season: tequila shots, beers, drinking games with a chant of "drink, drink, drink", a guest getting high at his own party, a few cigarettes. The show does not glorify any of it, but it does not punish it either: it is the everyday backdrop of a wealthy school, and it is what pushes the age up.
Humiliation and rivalryThe heroine is exposed in public for her father's wrongdoing, her past is dug up online, rowers call each other useless and tell each other to quit, and a girl in a boys' boat has to prove ten times what they prove once. Nothing physical, but words that land, and an eleven-year-old takes them at face value.
A father on the run, a family holding onThe father is accused of stealing millions and has vanished; mother and daughter start over from nothing in a late grandmother's house. Anger, tears, and one line that says it all: "I'm mad at him, but I really miss him". It is the most serious thread in the series, and the truest.
A hidden illness, a crashA rower hides a heart condition to stay in the boat, pushes his medication, and ends up behind the wheel of a car that leaves the road. Another party ends with a fall into the water. Nobody dies, but the idea that you might put yourself at risk rather than disappoint your parents deserves a conversation.
Kisses, innuendo, and strong languageCouples form and fall apart, there is a lot of kissing, a girl mentions in one sentence that she hooked up with a boy, the rowers joke about an "implied nudity" calendar. Nothing is shown beyond kisses. Swearing is frequent in the original version (shit, asshole, goddamn).
No violence, whatever it looks likeThe only gunshots are the starting pistol at regattas, and the "murder" a whole episode talks about is a Roaring Twenties costume-party game. A shove between boys, a bump on the forehead, and that is all.
