What it's about

After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.

A creature that comes for the familyWhatever prowls outside is heard first, growls and screams in the dark, then shown: a giant worm that forces doors and gets as far as the children's bedroom. Around the second hour the creature reaches the family itself, and the children witness a loss that marks the rest of the film. That passage sets the age: it is seen, not guessed.

Fear, in the darkNearly half the images are dark: a street without light, houses searched by flashlight, a child alone in the dark several times. The music worries, silences precede sudden shocks, and the film keeps its audience tense one scene in two.
