What it's about

Members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots battle deadly wildfires to save an Arizona town.

Why 13

The official rating, firstRated PG-13 in the US (parents strongly cautioned, some material may be inappropriate for children under 13). zinema never goes below the country's rating: it explains it.

Nineteen men who do not come backThe film follows two years in the life of an elite firefighting crew, then the day nineteen of them die in a wildfire. You do not see the bodies; you see the news arrive in a gym full of families, and a survivor who was not with them. Four hundred images of flames before that.
A heroin addictionThe youngest of the crew is an addict getting clean for his daughter; we see him snort, steal, lie, then hold on. A snake bite, bar fights, blood here and there.
Firehouse languageSome seventy swear words, crude jokes between men, an innuendo or two.

What the movie brings

A trade shown from the inside, with its rules and gestures: what a wildfire really is, and how it is fought.
A lost young man the crew puts back on his feet, without speeches.
A true story that ends badly, and shows that a film can respect the people it is about.

Watching it together

Before

Say beforehand that it is a true story and that almost all of them die at the end; the last half hour is the part to watch together.

After

at 13 and up

The chief chooses to stay with his men rather than run: what should he have done?
