Why 17

The official rating, firstRated R in the US (restricted, under 17 requires an accompanying parent); 12 ans in France. zinema never goes below the country's rating: it explains it.
rule
Killings in close-up, throughoutA pistol ambush in the opening minutes, a man dying in the hero's arms, then, on a cargo ship, some twenty hired guns shot, stabbed or broken with bare hands, often up close. Blood is on screen for over a minute in total, including a bullet dug out of a shoulder with no anesthetic. The film is rated R and the rating is earned.
shown
People locked in a container, and soldThe ship carries migrants hidden in a container, in the dark and the heat, without water, with an injured little girl among them. The crew herds them back at gunpoint, shoots one in a lifeboat, and the buyer who comes to collect them says he wants to pick out one for himself. Nothing sexual is shown, but the line is there.
shown
Some forty swear wordsThe f-word comes back about thirty times, from the killers and from the heroine alike.
shown
A mother far from her daughter, a son who betrayed his fatherThe heroine has lost custody of her six-year-old and is missing the weekend she promised. The dead man's son learns he caused, without meaning to, his father's murder, and the hero tells him he will have to live with it.

Night, the hold, and the noise of gunsAlmost everything happens at night, deep inside a ship. Gunfire fills a minute and a half of the film.
