What it's about

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, covert operations expert Zora Bennett is contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world's three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora's operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that's been hidden from the world for decades.

Why 13

The official rating, firstRated PG-13 in the US (parents strongly cautioned, some material may be inappropriate for children under 13). zinema never goes below the country's rating: it explains it.
rule
Dinosaurs that hunt, and catchThe film is one continuous hunt: growls in the dark, a third of the images at night, screams of fear in nearly every scene, three real jump scares, and in the last part a mutant creature bigger and uglier than anything the saga had shown. The tension only eases in short stretches of dialogue, for two hours and a quarter: that is what sets the age, not blood, which you do not see.
shown
Members of the team dieSeveral people on the expedition are taken by the dinosaurs. You do not see the blood, you hear and you understand, and a fall where someone begs to be held by the hand stays with you. Guns, a long burst of gunfire, fights, a fire near the end.
shown
Children in dangerA family is dragged along against its will, with a little girl and a teenager. Separated, chased, hiding, and at one point a child alone in the dark: that is what grips a young viewer most, because they put themselves in her place.
shown
Grief that weighs on the adultsTwo of the adults carry a loss, a child, a comrade, and speak of it more than once, without pathos but without evasion. A ten year old may need to be told why these heroes are sad.
said
Swearing, beer, a drug jokeAbout thirty swear words in the original version, a handful in the French dub, some insults, beer and wine, a cigarette, and a joke about drugs that will go over the youngest heads. One kiss, nothing more.

What the movie brings

Courage is not the absence of fear: the characters who make it are the ones who are afraid and move anyway.
An ordinary family, a father and his daughters, holding together in a monster movie: the adventure seen at a child's height.
The saga returns to the island and to the science: there is a conversation to have afterwards about what we make and what we let loose.

Watching it together

Before

The first attack at sea, around the half hour, and the night in the abandoned station, around the second hour, are the two moments when an eleven year old will reach for your hand.

After

at 13 and up

On the team, who makes the right calls when everything goes wrong: the one who is afraid, or the one who is not?
