From 13, alone or with a parent.
Alone, or with you
The official US rating is PG-13, and we never go below it. Alone from 13, and not before, even with an adult.
The sweet spot: around 13-14, when you can follow a slow film with visions, and watch a duke stripped and poisoned at his table without it spoiling the desert. Why a sweet spot?
Official US rating: PG-13. In France, zinema would say 12.
Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence - a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential - only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
A duke's son arrives on a desert planet that yields the most precious substance in the universe, and discovers his family was sent there to be destroyed.
The story happens ten thousand years from now, yet there is no robot and no artificial intelligence: an ancient war had them banned, which is why humans are trained to calculate, to see and to compel by themselves. The universe is feudal: noble houses, an emperor, oaths, debts of honour. Spaceships do not stop this being a world of lords and vassals. The film stops in the middle of the book. That is not an open ending, it is a half: the story finishes in Dune, part two.
Warn about the gom jabbar and the duke at his table; an eleven-year-old who accepts a slow film will follow it with you, alone it takes twelve.
at 13 and up
Paul has been told since childhood that he is a chosen one and he does not want it: what do you do with a destiny you did not choose?
