What it's about

From the heights of notoriety to the depths of depravity, John Forbes Nash Jr. experiences it all. As a brilliant but socially awkward mathematician, he made a groundbreaking discovery early in his career and stands on the brink of international acclaim. But as the handsome and arrogant Nash accepts secret work in cryptography, he becomes entangled in a mysterious conspiracy. His life takes a nightmarish turn and he soon finds himself on a painful and harrowing journey of self-discovery.

A man who opens his own armConvinced a chip has been implanted in him, Nash tears open his forearm with his fingers in front of his wife, and blood fills the centre of the frame for half a minute. It is the hardest scene, and it comes after an hour in which we believed in his spies as he did.
The baby in the bathNash leaves his infant in a filling bathtub, sure that someone is watching; his wife arrives in time. A ten-year-old can be deeply shaken by this scene, and by the husband shoving his wife right after.
A shootout that does not existA chase with gunfire, lived by Nash as real before we understand; then the hospital, the electroshocks, the pills that switch him off. The film shows the illness from the inside, which worries and enlightens at once.

What the movie brings

Understanding what an illness of the mind is by living it with the man who has it, rather than watching from outside.
A wife who stays, and says why: the film is also a story of difficult loyalty.
A mathematician who chooses to ignore what he sees in order to keep living: will as treatment.
